As he was exiting the vehicle, Morris pulled out a M 9mm pistol with an illegal high-capacity magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition and pointed it at an officer, police said. During a brief struggle, an officer managed to knock the weapon out of Morris' hands and it fell to the ground. Morris then took off on foot and was able to elude officers who pursued him, police said.

Authorities said Morris was in possession of body-armor penetrating ammunition and a high-capacity gun clip. The other three occupants of the vehicle were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of prohibited weapons.
